The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal is an initiative by the government to centralize all government-related projects on a single platform. This portal allows companies that provide services or products to create a login ID, set up their profiles, and start bidding on projects across India. It aims to bring all government agencies, regardless of state, onto one platform, enabling companies to bid from any region.

Key Steps for Using the GeM Portal:

  1. Registration and Profile Creation:
  2. Companies must first register on the GeM portal and create a comprehensive profile. This includes providing details about the products or services they offer.
  3. Bidding Process:
  4. Once registered, companies can browse various tenders posted by different government agencies and submit their bids online.
  5. Compliance with Rules:
  6. The government has established specific rules for participating on the portal. Companies must adhere to these guidelines to remain eligible for bidding.
  7. Winning a Bid:
  8. If a company's bid is successful, they will be awarded the project. The GeM portal or the respective government agency will charge an administrative fee of 0.5% of the bid amount. This fee is payable either after the project completion or within six months of being awarded the project.
